Living In NYC

I confess. I would trade my home in central Phoenix with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a pool and a guest house for a 2 bedroom one bath apartment in Manhattan today. For the past two summers our family has rented an apartment on the Lower East Side for a month. If your not a city person you may wonder why I would want to do this. Especially since I would be downsizing to a fraction of the space I currently have and paying about 5 times as much.

Let me tell you why. I love being able to get to most everything I need by either walking or taking public transportation. Being able to have anything delivered to you at anytime. Pizza, groceries, a bottle of wine or a crepe at 4 AM. Amazing! Being able to drop off your laundry and pick it up the next day, clean and folded for about .70 cents a pound. Saturday and Sunday brunch. Taking a train to Long Beach is only an hour train ride away and you are away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Then of course there is the fashion. It is so much fun to people watch. You see some amazing ensembles and some really interesting combinations. I recently went on a Top Button fashion tour where I was able to get a behind the scenes look at the NY fashion scene. I was able to meet the designers and see their fabulous work. It was also great to get a sneak peak at what is coming for fall. When you live in a large city you have opportunities that aren’t available to you anywhere else. I am sad I will be saying goodbye soon and look forward to returning next year.
